Bahrain: 14 Members of European Parliament Send Letter to Bahraini Ambassador in Brussels Condemning Executions

On August 16, 2019, 13 members of the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament, led by Ms. Sheila Ritchie (UK), sent a letter condemning the July 27 executions of Ali AlArab, Ahmed AlMalali, and a Bangladeshi national to the Bahraini ambassador in Brussels, Dr. Bahia Jawad Al-Jishi.

The letter calls these executions “a shameful display of disdain for human rights” and indicates that this issue would become a “parliamentary matter” if reforms were not put in place. The full letter can be read below.

The European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights welcomes this letter. We appreciate having our work be recognized and applaud the European Parliament in taking steps to hold Bahrain accountable for gross human rights violations. Bahrain must reform its practices to bring them in line with international human rights standards, as well as the international treaties to which it is has acceded.
